Final expense is not a glamourous career by any means. Anyone who is in the business can surely agree. Final expense is long hours in all of the elements, whether it is 90 degrees and sunny, pouring down rain, or a snowstorm, there are still families that need our help - therefore, we go to work. Any time you are working with the public - let's be honest - you can come across some "interesting" situations. Being a final expense agent is being a servant to your community. You are someone families will rely on on the most difficult day of their life, when their loved one passes. If you do not have the drive to care and help families when they need you the most, this is not the career for you.
Being an independent contractor means you have full control over your career. You don't need to tell your boss you're sick today and won't be working, because your only boss is you. You can take a week off for your annual family vacation. The flexible work schedule is great, but can be a problem for many agents. Having enough discipline to know you need to be out in the field working all day, instead of going to happy hour at 4pm with your best buddies, can be difficult to manage. You must learn to prioritize your career over a lot of other things if you want to make it far in final expense. If you want to work 9-5pm, this may not be the career for you.
